THE BAY RIDGE BAND
In Transit
The second CD of the Bay Ridge Band shows their range in this new release - and how! "Walk Together Children" starts as an a cappella spiritual and transforms into a Latin jazz extravaganza full of percussion, piano, a burning guitar solo, and those distinctive 4 part vocal harmonies. "Ora Kene Ike Jesu" takes an African chant and runs it through the BRB vocal machine: 6 part harmony plus drums and hand clapping. 2 folk songs from Great Britain ("The Keel Row" and "Will Ye Go Lassie Go") bring in flute to accompany these bouncy and sweet numbers. Three original numbers ("Will You Be Mine?", "Who Stood Up For Stephen?", "My Father Sings To Me") display a pop love song, a big-sound gospel song, and a thoughtful guitar/vocal ballad. Several others lead to the closing number which brings the band into new territory: an extended heart-felt piano solo followed by a 6-part a cappella jazz ballad. A beautiful CD that makes you wonder where the BRB will take us on their next journey.

1> Walk Together Children
Walk together children, don't you get weary,
Walk together children, don't you get weary,
Walk together children, don't you get weary,
There's a great camp meeting in the Promised Land.

I'm gonna walk, and never tire …
There's a great camp meeting in the Promised Land.

"Are you coming my sister?"
"Yes I'm coming to the Promised Land!"
"And you, brother? What about you?"
"Yes, yes, yes, yes, count me in…to the land of Glory!"
"Sleeper, wake up from your slumber. Shake the dust off your feet!"
"I've been waiting for this call"

And all you weary leave your burdens; we will carry you.
So, let's walk!

Walk together children …
Walk to the Father …
Walk, walk, walk …
Don't get weary …

2> The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy
The Virgin Mary had a baby boy
And they say that His name was Jesus

He come from the glory, He come from the glorious kingdom.

The wise men saw where the baby born…
And they say that His name was Jesus.

He come from the glory, He come from the glorious kingdom
Oh yes, believer!
He come from the glory, He come from the glorious kingdom.

The angels sang when the baby born,
And they say that His name was Jesus.

3> The Keel Row
As I came through Sandgate, through Sandgate, through Sandgate
As I came through Sandgate, I heard a lassie sing,
"Oh, weel may the keel row, the keel row, the keel row.
Oh, weel may the keel row that my laddie's in."

"Oh, who's like my Johnny? Sae leish, sae blithe, sae bonnie!
He's foremost of the mony keel lads o' coalie Tyne.
He'll set and row so tightly, or in the dance, so sprightly,
he'll cut and shuffle slightly -- 'tis true, were he not mine!"

"He wears a blue bonnet, blue bonnet, blue bonnet.
He wears a blue bonnet, a dimple in his chin."
"And weel may the keel row, the keel row, the keel row.
Oh, weel may the keel row that my laddie's in!"

4> All My Trials
All my trials, Lord,
Soon be over.

I had a little book was given to me,
And every word, spelled liberty …

If religion were a thing that money could buy,
The rich would live, and the poor would die …

Too late, my brothers, too late, but never mind …

There is a tree in paradise,
The pilgrims call it the tree of life ….

Too late, my brothers, too late, but never mind …

All my trials, Lord,
Soon be over

5> Who Stood Up for Stephen?
Who stood up for Stephen, when he was condemned to die?
Who stood up for Stephen, who heard his dying cry?
Who stood up for Stephen, can't somebody tell me why
He looked so glad, when it looked so bad,
And he wasn't scared of the hate they had?

Who stood up for Stephen? Was it the priests? Oh no!
Who stood up for Stephen? They all had stones to throw.
Who stood up for Stephen? Now where could the poor man go?
Not to the law those priests would draw like a weapon o' war 'gainst the grace they saw.

Who stood up for Stephen? Wasn't Paul there that day?
Who stood up for Stephen before Paul found the Way?
Who stood up for Stephen? Who saved that man's life that day?
It wasn't Paul, he still was Saul, so he joined the call for the killing and all.

Lord won't you please have mercy, Lord Jesus won't you please have mercy
On us sinners one and all?

Who stood up for Stephen? When everyone else stood back?
Who stood up for Stephen? Stood up from where he sat?
Who stood up for Stephen and gave him his life right back?
Our Lord stood up for the first of us who loved enough to take His cup.

Can't you hear the angels? Can't you hear the angels singin'?
They're singin' Hosanna on high!

Cause He stood up for Stephen, yes Jesus Christ did stand.
He stood up for Stephen, from Mighty God's right hand.
He stood up for Stephen! Right there in the Promised Land!
Saint Stephen's cry was heard on High, and that is why he'll never die!

6> Will You Be Mine?
Will you be mine?
Forty or fifty years down the line?
Will you be mine?
Will you be my perennial Valentine?

I've watched the sand in the hourglass shiftin'
And I know I'm running out of time.
I've just got one question:
Will you be mine?

I'm tired of fixing dinner for one,
I'm tired of winter nights all alone,
I'm tired of pretending to have fun
With someone that I can't call my own.
You suddenly appeared in my life
And then water turned into wine.
Well, I just was wondering,
Will you be mine?

They say there's someone for everyone
It's part of the Great Design.
I've just got one question:
Say that you'll be mine.

Will you be willing to spend your life
With someone who can't keep his own life straight?
Will you be willing to put up with all the things I do
That I know you hate?
There was a time I loved the bachelor life
But that stone has lost its shine,
Please say that you're the one for me,
Say that you'll be mine.

I just said the words "I love you",
They finally felt just fine.
Please say to me that you love me too.
Say that you'll be mine.

Let us give thanks for the power of Jesus.
Let His adoring angels bring the crown
To crown Him King.

Come crown Him…our King.

Make Him King, you angels of God
Who stand in His Presence.
Praise Him and crown Him our King.

Children of Israel, chosen ones,
Saved people of God,
Greet the Savior.
Come crown Him our King.

Let all the universe respond to the call.
Give Him His due glory.
Come crown Him our King.

Accompany the angels of heaven
And fall prostrate before Him.
In everything give Him praise.
Come crown Him our King.

Glory to the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit, the blest Trinity.
Come crown Him our King.

8> Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?
Oh, the summertime is coming, and the trees are sweetly bloomin',
And the wild mountain thyme grows around the bloomin' heather.
Will ye go, lassie, go?

And we'll all go together to pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather.
Will ye go, lassie, go?

If my true love, he were gone, I could surely find another
Where the wild mountain thyme grows around the bloomin' heather.
Will ye go, lassie, go?

I will build my love a bower near yon pure, crystal fountain.
And, on it, I will pile all the flowers of the mountain.
Will ye go, lassie, go?

9> All Night All Day
All night, all day,
Oh Lordy, angels watching over me, my Lord.
All night, all day, angels watching over me.

Now I lay me down to sleep…
I pray the Lord my soul to keep…

All night, all day …

If I die before I wake…
I pray the Lord my soul to take…

All night, all day …

If I should live another day…
I pray the Lord to guide my way…

All night, all day …

10> Lela
Están as nubes chorando
por un amor que morréu.
Están as rúas molladas,
de tanto como chovéu.

Lela, Lela,
Leliña por quen eu morro
quero mirarme
nas meniñas dos teus ollos.

Non me deixes
e ten compasión de min.
Sen ti non podo,
sen ti non podo vivir.

Dame alento das túas palabras,
dame celme do teu corazón,
dame lume das túas miradas
dame vida co teu dulce amor.

Lela, Lela...
Sen tí non podo,
sen tí non podo vivir.

TRANSLATION
The clouds are weeping because of a love that is ending,
The streets are wet with my tears.
Lela, whom I love, I want to see my reflection in the light of your eyes.
Don't leave me; have pity on me;
Without you, I can't live.
Give me breath by your words,
Give me warmth with your heart,
Give me light with your gaze,
Give me life with your sweet love.

11> That Suits Me
Oh, come on, Elder, let's go round the wall,
That suits me.
Oh come on Elder, let's go round the wall…
I don't want to stumble and I don't want to fall,
That suits me.

Oh, you can weep like a willow, you can mourn like a dove,
That suits me…
Oh you can weep like a willow, you can mourn like a dove,
But if you want to get to heav'n, you got to go with love…

Oh, when I die Lord I want to die right,
That suits me…
Oh when I die Lord I want to die right,
I want to march up in the kingdom all dressed in white,
That suits, me.

12> My Father Sings to Me
In the world there is a voice
and it sings with a mission.
In my life there is a choice
and I've chosen to listen
To the sound of life and freedom,
To a strong, insistent cry.
In the world there is Someone
asking me to ask Him "Why?"

My Father sings to me
in endless elation
He sings my existence
He sings my salvation
A song that has been written
in harmony with yearning
A tune beyond my hope
with words beyond my learning.

I'm deafened by my meanness,
Yet still His song resounds,
Discouraged by my weakness,
Yet still His grace abounds.
I've discerned Him in the noise,
I have heard Him in the silence.
My heart has found its key
in the music of His presence.

So I could hear more clearly,
My Father's Son was slain.
He rose above the discord,
His blood runs through my veins.
The Son sings of His Spirit
Whose sound is unity.
The Spirit sings a movement
that keeps on moving me.

13> Come and Go With Me
Come and go with me to that land… where I'm bound. Come and go with me to that land…with me to the land where I'm bound.

There ain't no kneelin' in that land where I'm bound.
There ain't no kneeling in that land…

There'll be singin' in that land where I'm bound.
There'll be singing in that land…

I'm gonna walk the streets of glory on that great day in the morning… I'm gonna put on my shoes that's holy. I'm gonna walk the streets of glory, allelu.

Don't you want to hear the children singing on that great day in the morning? …Ding dong bells are ringing. Don't you want to hear all the children singing allelu?

Don't you want to stand in the light together on that great day in the morning? …Shake hands with one another. Don't you want to stand in the light together allelu?

There is more love, somewhere,
I'm gonna keep on, till I find it,
There is more love somewhere.
